The Basic Series in All Its Abundance
Don Hanlon Johnson - "What an unusual and lovely piece of work. Thank you for these wonderful materials."
Carol Ann Agneessens - "A beautifully written testament to Dr. Ida Rolf's vision through preserved class notes, illustrations, quotes, session by session guidance and reflections from John Lodge and current European Guild instructors."
Will Johnson - "Wow! What has been put together is a treasure for all of us who got pulled into Dr. Rolf’s orbit and vision. "
Dr. Edward Maupin - "Obviously this book is a treasure. However much her students have improved, say, the understanding of touch communication with the sentient body, or of the expansion of the body in gravity, this is where we start! "
Karl E. Humiston MD - "This is such an extraordinary work, that no ordinary review seems right ... Trust this book. Let it do its sacred work, which it will if you simply read it."
“What an unusual and lovely piece of work. It impacted me, reminding me for the first time in decades of the unique place that John played in our complex histories. Strangely, what came up strongly was Ida’s “sexy womanness” that John really evoked with is big-sized warm heartedness and humor. They had a very sensual give and take. There were a couple of other men like that who happened by then and again and evoked that same kind of sparkle in Ida. I believe his presence had a conceptual importance in that Ida did indeed ground her grand visions in anatomical structures, but as an artist John added that larger dimension of the imagination and aesthetics to the spare literalism of classical anatomical art, mirroring her vision of the body as more than just 'a body.'
I also was reminded of the curious fact that I have tracked over my very long history that a long lasting community seems to require a visionary element if it is to weather the storms of history. My oldest friends are those who, with me, struggled through Catholicism and the Jesuits. Then the Rolfing vision. And perhaps for me now something about a modernist buddhism with buddha, family-, friends-, and earth-centered devotion. or something like that. I think of our close brothers and sisters in osteopathy. The small remnant that Ida knew, including Eliott, sustain Still and Sutherlands vision; the others, of less cohesion, are more family docs. Thanks for these wonderful materials."
Don Hanlon Johnson - author of, amongst others, “Body, Spirit & Democracy”.
“If the doors of perception are cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things through narrow chinks of his cavern.”
William Blake
"A beautifully written testament to Dr. Ida Rolf's vision through preserved class notes, illustrations, quotes, session by session guidance and reflections from John Lodge and current European Guild instructors.
With each consecutive reading, my grasp of her insights into the multi-dimensionality of this
human form and its evolutionary potential deepens. This manuscript sheds a welcome light on Dr. Rolf’s esoteric wisdom often neglected by a Cartesian adherence to the body-mind split.
It affirms the mystery beneath surface appearances. Through this inquiry the undeniable and vital essence of life can be touched and a feeling for the “vastness of being” may be perceptually known.
Timeless Elegance delivered me through a perceptual doorway, magnifying both the process and a remembering of why I chose this field for my life’s work. This is the practice I continue offering. Or as John Lodge knowingly stated: 'This is a way of loving serving'. Thank you John Lodge for this spectrum of understanding you gifted to us all.”

"Wow! What has been put together is a treasure for all of us who got pulled into Dr. Rolf’s orbit and vision."
Will Johnson - author of amongst other books: 'Balance of Body Balance of Mind: A Rolfer's Vision of Buddhist Practice in the West'
"Obviously this book is a treasure: Dr. Rolf explaining her method, her only
in-print description of the ten sessions to John Lodge, whom she trusted to
understand her. However much her students have improved, say, the
understanding of touch communication with the sentient body, or of the
expansion of the body in gravity, this is where we start!"
Ed Maupin Rolfer since 1968
"The names Rolfing and Ida Rolf were unknown to me until early 1970, when I attended an Esalen workshop on 'body awareness' and whenever the teacher [Ed Maupin] mentioned his recent training with Ida Rolf I felt a deep thrill and excitement quite unknown to me before that. 'I have to have this,' and I got rolfed by him. Then I really had to have it, and walked away from my career job as director of psychiatric residency training to be trained by Ida in 1971. Only later did I understand what 'got into me.'
Most of you will find some of the same deep thrill getting into you as you read this book, which brings to you a deep feeling for the enormous possibilities that are lurking inside all of us, that were placed there in the beginning by our Creator and will begin working more into you as you read – although much of the deeper truth in Ida Rolf’s ten-series is beyond words.
As a rolfer myself for the past 50 years, I never got around to any of the advanced training that was available, as I sensed, as do the compilers of this book, that simply practicing the ten-series year after year will take me (and my clients) further than anything else I could do. And it has.
Trust this book. Let it do its sacred work, which it will if you simply read it."

The Basic Series in All Its Abundance
An Homage to Dr. Ida Rolf’s Work Inspired by John Lodge
The first handwritten notes to what ultimately became her 'magnum opus', the typewritten and hand-corrected versions and the manuscript deemed ready to print give evidence to the incredible amount of work Ida Rolf, Rosemary Feitis, John Lodge and others had put into 'Rolfing - The Integration of Human Structures'. All these materials were gifted to us by John Lodge’s estate.
The package we received in March 2020 also contained John Lodge's own handwritten teaching note, sketches and drawings compiled while teaching for the Rolf Institute in the 1980's. They bear witness to his quest to understand and teach philosophical, if not spiritual and metaphysical aspects of our work - aspects all very dear to Dr. Rolf, aspects that have faded into near oblivion in the 21st century, then giving way to primarily mechanical considerations.
David Davis, Dario Di Lorenzo, Cornelia Studer, Fulvio Faudella, Adam Polański and Aleš Urbanczik became the group sorting through this material. We created a book, reintroducing these ideas to the SI world. Neal Powers, Nilce Silveira, Bert Schmitz, Zdenka Šímová, Ludek Šíma, Margaret VanderWaerden, Wendy Walker and Sharon Wheeler contributed their views on the topic.
